Cooking

Thanksgiving is coming up and we have been discussing it at work.  People have been discussing menu's! Ours is always the same. I tried to change it years ago. It was unanimously shot down. I could add the capon or duck to the EXISTING menu... but the basics WOULD be there. J must have turkey and greens. M must have mac and cheese D must have dressing, turkey, gravy, yams, greens and a piece of corn bread. So I can do whatever new thing I want to do as long as I prepare all of the above.
I am an only child, only grandchild, only niece.  My family is small...Just me and the kids and my mom ( who only eats and occasionally cooks a side dish) No aunts, uncles, grandparents or dad on my side at all. All passed on.  Their dads side is huge... but he is in FL and the bulk of his fam is in CT. So we can't dine with them. They are my ex in laws, but some of them still claim me!  For me not having to do all the work... I would totally go to CT for Thanksgiving!! It is soooo much fun for me. It is a huge family 13 bros and sis, tons of nieces and nephews. So many people. * happy squealing*   But, alas,  Mommy will be doing the cooking.. it is a lot of work for me... but they are thrilled with the results and I am overjoyed  to see all my boys  happy.

Everybody has their own tradition... that's ours.

What are YOU cooking or eating with your family?

My wife doesn't like pork, so we eat turkey throughout the year. We don't have to have it for Thanksgiving or Christmas, so we'll eat different stuff. There have been years that we had gumbo or fried shrimp or etouffee or steaks.

This year we are having a turkey breast, dressing, cranberry sauce, mac n cheese and a few other tasties.
